The business-as-usual fashion fair Inspiramais focuses on sustainability
For almost three decades, most materials launched during Inspiramais were and are NOT sustainable.
In the past few years, the event has been promoting discussions on “sustainability”, as well as promoting materials, brands, designers, and consultants related to “sustainable fashion”.
While their digital marketing highlights the keyword “sustainability”, the sponsors of Inspiramais are big Brazilian companies that still focus on business-as-usual, on economic growth on a limited planet.
I have been at the event a couple of times since 2009 and, among traditional materials proudly made of PU and PVC, and greenwashed materials, we can find a few good examples of sustainable materials, brands, and designers.
There is an elephant in the room of Inspiramais.
Follows below their green press release.
Sustainable practices and processes, which go far beyond products, will be the highlights of the 29th edition of INSPIRAMAIS. INSPIRAMAIS is a trade fair that launches more than a thousand materials for the footwear, clothing, furniture and jewelry industries between January 23 and 24, at the FIERGS Event Center, in Porto Alegre/RS.
In addition to business which is the focus of the show, there is a lot of quality content confirmed. One of the 13 lectures – see the schedule below – is on “How to drive innovation and sustainability”, which will be led by Suelen Joner, head of Sustainability at the Arezzo&Co group, with the participation of Flavio Enninger (Quattro Projetos) and Sioduhi Piratapuya (Sioduhi Studio). In the presentation, scheduled for 1:30 P.M. on the first day of the event (23), Suelen will talk about the ecoAR contest. The contest highlighted cases of entrepreneurs who brought together innovation, sustainability and fashion. “The project was carried out with the support of the Culture Incentive Law, the Rouanet Law. In the presentation, in addition to highlighting the four winning cases, in the Product and Post-Consumption categories, we will talk about how to use incentivized resources to promote innovation and sustainability, “sums up Suelen.
The ecoAR Project will even have a space at INSPIRAMAIS, in which the winners of the contest will be presented: Textile Agroforestry Project (Beto Bina), Maniocolor Project – textile dye based on cassava peel (Sioduhi Studio), Textile Waste Bank Project (Suzana Barreto Martins) and Bruk Project (Arthur Cesar Silva). In addition to R $10 thousand, each winning project received the opportunity to exhibit its projects in two events. The first presentation was in São Paulo/SP, in November/December, and the second will be at INSPIRAMAIS.
