Talk about Fashion in the Amazon at COP26
On 6th November, we will be at the UN Climate Change Conference 2021 to talk about “The neocolonialism of scaling-up rubber production for fashion in the Amazon”
What is COP26?
COP26 is the 2021 United Nations climate change conference
For nearly three decades the UN has been bringing together almost every country on earth for global climate summits – called COPs – which stands for ‘Conference of the Parties’. In that time climate change has gone from being a fringe issue to a global priority.
This year will be the 26th annual summit – giving it the name COP26. With the UK as President, COP26 takes place in Glasgow.
In the run up to COP26 the UK is working with every nation to reach agreement on how to tackle climate change. World leaders will arrive in Scotland, alongside tens of thousands of negotiators, government representatives, businesses and citizens for twelve days of talks.
What is our talk about?
The neocolonialism of scaling-up rubber production for fashion in the Amazon
Despite the challenges of the largest rainforest of the world, new social technologies of rubber have been developed, connecting enterprises, NGOs, universities, rubber tappers, cooperatives, indigenous peoples, and multilateral banks, in the name of sustainable development. However, their partnerships still repeat old-fashioned practices of colonialism, while deforestation rates increase.

Although the tickets to return to Amsterdam vary from ZERO euro to 90 euro (I bought for 38 euro the flight back), KLM is the best option. Direct flight. The end.

Scottish pounds. It’s possible that in a store in Glasgow, whenever you pay in cash, in Scottish pounds, you’ll receive back British pounds. Different money, but no problem. Different pounds are acceptable in the United Kingdom. But they never accept Euros…
