Open Science Award 2022: our fashion project was published as a Use Case
The Street Store Belo Horizonte, a free pop-up store for homeless people, was one of the 12 projects published in the Open Science Use Case 2022, part of the National Programme Open Science for PhDs of Dutch universities
I’m humble and happy to share that the project we carried out 10x between 2015 and 2019, The Street Store Belo Horizonte, in Brazil – in which thousands of homeless and people in socially vulnerable conditions could choose clothes according to their personal tastes, with the help of our hundreds of volunteers, Production Engineering students, and donors – was one of 12 cases selected by the Dutch National Open Science Program, aimed at PhDs from universities in the Netherlands.
Our free street shop was not one of the five Open Science Award 2022 award-winning projects, but a finalist (see link below for the book published with all cases). A ceremony will take place on 1st September in Amsterdam during the Open Science Festival, presented by the Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Robbert Dijkgraaf.
I understand this international recognition as a heartfelt affection and thanks to all the people who were part of this project. Our greatest prize will always have been what we lived, how we felt with people, and the opportunity they gave us to serve them.

Estou feliz de compartilhar que o projeto que realizamos 10x entre 2015 e 2019, The Street Store Belo Horizonte, no Brasil – em que milhares de moradores de rua e pessoas em condições de vulnerabilidade social podiam escolher roupas à vontade, de seu gosto pessoal, com a ajuda de nossos centenas de voluntários, alunos de Engenharia de Produção e doadores – foi um dos 12 casos selecionados pelo Programa Nacional Holandês de Ciência Aberta, voltado para PhDs de universidades da Holanda.
A nossa loja de rua gratuita não foi um dos cinco projetos premiados do Open Science Award 2022, mas sim finalista (veja link abaixo do livro publicado com todos os casos). Haverá uma cerimônia no dia 1º de setembro em Amesterdam durante o Open Science Festival, apresentado pelo Ministro da Educação, Cultura e Ciência.
Entendo esse reconhecimento internacional como um carinho na alma e agradecimento a todas as pessoas que fizeram parte desse projeto. O nosso maior prêmio sempre terá sido o que vivemos, como nos sentimos com as pessoas, e a oportunidade que elas nos deram de servir.

Op 1 september aanstaande vindt het Nationaal Open Science Festival plaats.
In het kader van het Festival werd een oproep voor Open Science Use Cases gepubliceerd. Een (Engelstalige) collectie van 12 Use Cases met een focus op societal engagement, een van de pijlers van het Nationaal Programma Open Science, is een resultaat van die oproep. Deze collectie is vandaag gepubliceerd op Zenodo.
Zie de bijlage voor alle informatie over deze collectie en de bijbehorende Open Science Awards voor vijf van de Use Cases, die op het Open Science Festival zullen worden overhandigd door minister van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap Robbert Dijkgraaf.
