D.R.Y. clothes made from umbrellas in Argentina
Broken umbrellas become jackets and accessories for men and women
The story
D.R.Y is a brand that was born from the need of taking care of resources, animals, people and the Planet.
The fashion industry is one of the most polluting in the world, so we wanted to show that fashion can be made ethically and sustainably, respecting workers and the environment. That production can have a positive impact without destroying or polluting in its process. While navigating environmental activism, we found out that umbrellas can’t be recycled, so we decided to do something with them.
This is how D.R.Y was born.
Sustainability
We are an upcycling brand, we recycle broken umbrellas to turn them into unique products like jackets and accessories. We don’t want to produce any waste, so we donate the umbrella’s structures to the Niwok Foundation, which works with women from the Wichí community (Argentinian natives), empowering them through decent work. They transform the structures into knitting needles.
We also donate pieces of clothes to other brands and recycle the plastic parts.
Target
Our consumer is interested in either design, or sustainability, or both. They are people between the ages of 24-45 who are looking for unique products. Some of them shop for the story of the product so they can carry that message wherever they go, and others just love the design and when they find out it’s made from umbrellas and what it stands for, they love it even more.
