Unrobe: dressing people by undressing the industry
Based in The Netherlands and ready to change the fashion system
Daan Ubachs founded the Dutch sustainable fashion brand Unrobe back in August 2017. The brand liberates the fashion industry from its bad habits. Therefore the mission sounds: dressing people by undressing the industry. Sustainable, ethical, transparent, circularity and zero waste are key values of the brand.
Ubachs worked for 12 years in the fashion industry with a lot of experience in product development and buying, strongly focused in Asia. He has lived in Jakarta, Indonesia, to produce for major international brands.
During this time he has seen a lot of good, but also bad things. Therefore he thought something needed to change. Ubachs moved back to Amsterdam and Unrobe was born.
The brand liberates the fashion industry from many bad habits, such as pollution, waste, dangerous working environments and exploitation. That means they exclusively use sustainable fabrics – both recycled and organic. No chemicals nor pesticides are used and they save up 70% to 90% water per garment. By using recycled fabrics they use what’s already there which decreases the ecological footprint.
Besides sustainable fabrics, the brand produces in sustainable and ethical ways in Portugal. The factories are strictly selected working under the highest certifications. No long working days, normal salaries and safe working environment. Unrobe matches demand and supply as much as possible to produce almost zero waste for their productions.
Besides the Business to Consumer model, Unrobe also produces company clothing for several companies, such as Heineken, SodaStream and DGTL Festival. To make other companies more sustainable fits perfectly within the mission of Unrobe, to dress people/companies by undressing the industry.
