Entrepreneur

Among all research, ethical and sustainable fashion is her passion since the first year of her undergraduate degree in Product Design at the State University of Minas Gerais (UEMG), in 2007. Seeking to answer daily “How can fashion be ethical?”, she created some fashion blogs and websites to provide the information she found, as well as to share professional experiences. In 2016, she lost five years of content created, went to court, and won the cause, but not the content back. She restarted all the work. From 2017 to 2020, the current website was developed with the UFMG Junior Computer Company. Not just a brand and a website, Ethical Fashion Brazil was a micro-enterprise to provide consultancy for other companies (2012-2019, in Brazil). After moving abroad and working via different contracts, besides doing the PhD, she decided to continue as an independent consultant. The website then became a platform to support Sustainable Fashion Brands, and a showcase of her work.

Product Designer

She started working at the age of 18 as a quality auditor for a Japanese technology car electrical wiring company, Sumidenso. It was manual labor on the factory floor, so she could get money to do the entrance examinations in Product Design. Already at the Design School of the University of the State of Minas Gerais, in her second year, she started her scientific studies in Jewelry Design at UEMG, and at the Department of Chemistry at UFMG, researching and developing a sustainable composite based on bovine bone powder as a substitute for marine corals. In 2009, a sustainable fashion entrepreneur at the Ethical Fashion Show (actual Neonyt), in Paris, found her blog and called her to work for his company. For a year, she worked as a style assistant and then as a fashion designer. Her last job in the industry was as Jewelry Design Coordinator for a fast fashion company of semi jewels, in 2013.

In 2022, she started to make her own jewelry with silver and natural gemstones at the Atelier Ping-An Brouwers, in The Hague.

Consultant

Since then, she has provided Consulting Services in Engineering, Services in Fashion Design and Services in Scientific Knowledge to diverse companies and institutions. Among the most relevant projects are: the development of the layout of a bag and shoe factory; reverse engineering of maternity bags; the audition of a carbon market project in the Amazon for the United States government; sustainable fashion companies in the United Kingdom. Through the website Ethical Fashion Brazil, she communicates the services provided, as well as disseminates ethical and sustainable fashion products and services, and is curator of content.

Artist in her spare time

She has won several cultural and literary contests since childhood. There are at least five contests of a Brazilian television company, honorable mentions of literature of the Camões Institute in Portugal, Brazilian award for development of fashion tags, among others. She has made some artistic exhibitions, highlighting a chair with textile waste for the IV Brazilian Design Biennial, in 2012, and three paintings oil on canvas for the River City Hall, in Bangkok, in 2014, as well as solo and group exhibitions at the Artigas Gallery, in her hometown.

Her last exhibition was in 2019, an artistic installation at the Fashion Museum, in Belo Horizonte, to show the construction of Ethical Fashion Brazil website as well as to honor her excellent team of programmers.

Jury member

In 2021, she was invited to be part of the jury of the Fashion Makes Sense Award, together with other six colleagues, like the deputy director of Vogue Italy and the manager of Global Fashion Agenda, to evaluate sustainable fashion designs of nine fashion designers, from Louis Vuitton, Adidas, and others.

Leader and social activist

From 2015 to 2019, she has developed several social projects for minorities, mainly in the “favelas” (shanty towns in Brazil). She has run three editions of the Pimp My Carroça project for the renovation of carts for waste pickers and canners. Above all, the biggest personal and professional achievement was having led and executed 10 editions of the South African project The Street Store in Belo Horizonte. It is a pop-up street store where all clothing, shoes and accessories are selected for free by the homeless. With this project, she created a network of over 300 volunteers, as well as over 1,000 registered donors, serving hundreds of homeless people with thousands of clothes. In 2015, the project received the Urban Kindness Award, in the Generosity category, by the Institute of Architects of Brazil. In 2018, she joined Children’s International Summer Villages, in Belo Horizonte. In 2020, she became one of the Ambassadors of Remake Our World, to promote ethical and sustainable fashion even more in social media. Finaly, she contributed as a Fundraising Volunteer at the NGO Unity in Diversity, in The Hague.

Meditator

She is a certified mindfulness meditation trainer at the World Peace Initiative NGO, in Thailand, where she went four times to learn with the teaching monks, from 2014 to 2020. By taking part on Peace Revolution project, from the NGO, she seeks to understand the nature of the mind as well as spread the culture of peace around the world.

In addition to Bachelor, Master and PhD, she took more than 50 extra courses.

Empreendedora
